Kia Shows Off Their Sporty Side

At this year's SEMA show, Kia proved they quite literally have game, by introducing a team of five custom models targeting five of the more popular sports in America:

   1. Surfing
   2. Basketball
   3. Hockey
   4. Golf
   5. Track

Let's begin with the Rio5, which has been prepped for the forthcoming Sports Car Club of America B-spec racing series.

Designed to compete with the likes of the MAZDA2, this hatchback features a quick-release steering wheel, lightweight wheels, an interior roll cage, a racing seat with harness... Keep an eye on this vehicle taking a top spot in the local grassroots event.

For those hockey fans who prefer pucks and sticks to asphalt and shredded rubber,  Kia proudly presented the Hat Trick Forte five-door. Its icy looks are defined by a metallic gray exterior and 19-inch blue alloy wheels. The cars interior is outfitted with a custom hockey stick compartment and custom rear bucket seats. The icing on the cake is an Xbox 360 with LCD TVs located in the backseat, for those who want to play NHL 2012 on the road.

For those who prefer one of Americas oldest games, golf, Kia has you covered there as well. A little bolder than the aforementioned models, it features a brilliant blue exterior clad in graphics of a golf bag ,and is suited with huge 20-inch wheels. Like the other custom-built sports models, the Hole-In-One comes with an Xbox360. But, unlike any of the other Kia models, it also comes with two golf bags and a number of speakers to maximize the entertainment experience.

Even those who prefer to ride on their surf board rather than in their car, were treated to a custom car. Named the Retro Surf Rio5, it wowed more than a few groovy spectators with all the bells and whistles including:

  • Roof-mounted wood-grain board
  • Wood front splitter
  • 17-inch, three-piece gold wheels
  • Plaid board-short-inspired seat covering.

No one, however, can argue that the slam dunk of the event was the Blake Griffin Kia Optima.  This vehicle was designed for basketball fans who still have the image of Blake Griffin jumping over an Optima with a slam dunk still ingrained in their head. Features include:

  • A basketball-inspired exterior paint job.
  • Basketball-court-inspired flooring,
  • Pop-a-Shot basketball hoop setup in the trunk
  • Flat-screen TV and Xbox360
